Imats & Idiff : some feedback

Post initially posted on february the 28th.

This year, IMATS moved to Alexandra Palace. This location, located in a northern suburb of London, has a nice display and some advantages, like the bigger pub for the Afterglow, the usual meeting of make-up artists on Satuday and Sunday Evening. More room to talk, discuss, show your work, but as it is further from Central London, many make up artists didn’t stay late there. One good thing was a bigger place for the car park and later time for packing everything the last day. A free shuttle was arranged from there to King’s cross area, it was quite appreciated. I just missed the nice lodgia that was so great to have a good overview of the show.

2008 was a pretty good year, regarding classes and keynote (Rick Baker & Nick Dudman were there !) but the new location, a little bit outside London seems to have prevented some brands to come this year. It’s a pity because the crowd was there ! I personaly think this WE was a blast.

I was doing airbrush demos on Temtpu booth and absolutely loved it ! I’ve met and discussed with so many make-up artists and wannabe make-up artists, that was really great. I’ve discovered the new tatoo designs from the brand : Gor-geous ! And easy to apply with 70° alcohol. You’ve got a pretty realistic black and white tatoo, that you can coloured if you fancy it.
I liked already the products before that (I wouldn’t have been on their booth otherwise) but I must admit I really enjoyed working with the Temptu team, because they really love make-up artists, achieving the best products for our needs, and they love to hear feedback from the one who use their stuff.

Practical information : If you need a particular tatoo, for a film character or a fashion show, just contact them : they can make a tatoo from your drawing, in the needed quantity. Good to know !

I have also discover and play around with their new eyebrow kit. I really like it : simple and nice stencils and 6 nice colors. Well done guy ! And the colors are truly interesting also used as a eye-shadow.

    IDIFF 2008 - Paris©Cinésystème

A few day after that, I go on doing airbrush demos in Paris, for the IDIFF (International digital Film Festival). This show present every new technology arriving in the digital film industry, and a workshop about an line of work of the cinema.

This year, the focus was on Light and make-up. We’ve had the latest cameras testing lightings and different make-up. Sabine was doing conventional make-up as I was doing airbrush make-up. That was truly interesting, for we had models from various age and skin color. DOP, make-up artists, producers were able to ask questions and see what HD was about, make-upwise.

Answering all these people help me write an article that I was asked to write for makeupmaquillage, a French speaking make-up board. I will put the translated article in a few days.

If you want to make the most of your career and improve your artistry, please note these two great shows for next year ! You won’t regret it !
